Our story

Indies 586 was created to honor the legacy of Indiana — the great-grandmother of owner Mahogany Gillis. Known lovingly as “Indie,” she was a strong, soulful woman known for her cooking, hospitality, and generosity. Her home, located at 586, was a place where family and friends always felt fed — both in stomach and in spirit. In her memory, Mahogany named the business Indies 586 to keep that spirit alive — where every dish is seasoned with love, tradition, and a little soul.

A taste of tradition

Indies 586 isn’t just a restaurant — it’s a cultural experience. The food is made from scratch with recipes inspired by family traditions, served with warmth and heart. From turkey chops and butter steak to hand-whipped banana pudding and seafood salad, every plate tastes like something your favorite auntie would make. The vibe is soulful, the portions are generous, and the energy is real — built on the foundation of family, community, and comfort.
